Riverhead High School bowlers Jonathan Horton and Anthony Trent won the Suffolk County boys doubles championship.

The two seniors beat Walt Whitman 404 to 391 on Jan. 21 at Sayville Lanes to earn the county title.

Horton and Trent were one of 15 doubles teams competing for the title. They edged into the final four by just six pins, Horton said. Then they had to beat the number-one seeded Longwood team to make it to the final match against Walt Whitman.

The Blue Waves Varsity Boys Bowling team had a standout season this year, said bowling coach Scott Hackal. At 997.28, the team recorded  one of the highest per game average in Riverhead team bowling history, Hackal said. The team finished fifth in Suffolk County standings.

Horton won the League Three sportsmanship award.

Elliot Jones and Adam Vail won All-League honors.
