(January 25, 2012 – Riverhead, NY) Students from Bishop McGann-Mercy High School in Riverhead will be giving a presentation on their collaboration with the Christian Foundation for the Children and Aging (CFCA) and their ongoing mission work in El Salvador on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 7 pm.
Many years ago, Fr. Michael Rieder, former chaplain of McGann-Mercy started a relationship with CFCA where students could sponsor children in need, primarily in El Salvador. CFCA is a Catholic lay organization whose core values are grounded in the Gospel’s call to serve the poor. In 2008, Fr. Rieder and religion teacher, Mrs. Michelle Nappi, led a group of students in a mission to El Salvador, hosted by CFCA. This mission to El Salvador and the Mercy student’s commitment to the cause has continued and grown every year since. During these mission trips to Santa Ana, El Salvador, the students are given the opportunity to see the results of their continuing efforts by experiencing day-to-day life in the village, help to build houses, work with La Fortuna School and get to meet their sponsored children.
All members of the community are welcome to come and learn about the commitment the students of McGann-Mercy have made to the El Salvador mission. Information will also be available for the upcoming mission in August 2012.
