LIPA says it will have power restored to 90 percent of customers by Wednesday.

More than 3,900 customers remain without power in Riverhead, with the bulk of outages clustered in Wading River, where 1,443 customers are still in the dark.

Most gas stations in and around Riverhead had power but no gas to sell as of Sunday night.
Valero, Hess and Citgo stations were getting deliveries through the weekend, and had long lines of cars waiting for fuel. All stations along Route 58 were closed as of 6 a.m. today. LIRR trains are not operating east of Ronkokoma on the main line. Trains from Ronkonkoma to Penn Station are running on a limited schedule this morning. Trains on the Montauk line are not running east of Speonk.

Schools in Riverhead and across the East End are open today, but numerous school districts across the island remain shut down. LIU in Riverhead is closed. St. John the Evangelist religious formation classes are canceled today.

The weather forecast this week is foreboding for residents without power and heat — and the people who are working to restore service. High temperatures today and tomorrow are forecast to reach only into the 40s. Temperatures tonight and tomorrow are forecast to dip into the 20s. On the heels of the cold snap is a forecast “significant coastal storm” that could bring substantial rain and winds to Long Island and NYC on Wednesday into Thursday. Rain, accompanied by sustained winds of 25-35 mph with gusts in excess of 50 mph are forecast for Wednesday.
