Mary Ellen Ellwood of Riverhead was installed as president of the Rotary Club of Riverhead in ceremonies at the Inn at East Wind in Wading River last month.

Ellwood is an associate broker with Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Mattituck. She has been a member of the Riverhead Rotary Club since 2008.

Tom Lennon of East Quogue, chief financial officer of Pine Barrens Printing, and an 11-year member of the club, is Riverhead Rotary’s new secretary. South Jamesport resident Ginger Lewin, a principal in Lewin Medical Supply of Riverhad and a member of Riverhead Rotary for 17 years, was installed as treasurer.

2013 0725 ellwood hulseThe officers are joined on the board by: George Dupree, pastor at Living Water Church in Aquebogue; Mimi Johnson of Moriches, retired mortgage banker; Ken Zahler of Cutchogue, president of Aquebogue Abstract in Riverhead; Marilyn McLaughlin of Flanders, Riverhead oncologist; Bill Fields of New Suffolk, general manager at Apple Honda; Bill London of Riverhead, CEO of ABL Computing in Riverhead; and immediate past president Linda Hulse, of Aquebogue.

Riverhead Rotary, chartered in 1931, is the third oldest club in Suffolk County, and is the largest club in the Long Island-New York City region. Through the fundraising efforts of its members, Riverhead Rotary supports many charitable causes, locally and internationally, including: the Peconic Bay Medical Center capital campaign; the L.I. Council of Churches; Riverhead Free Library; New Beginnings Community Center; River and Roots Community Garden; Riverhead Townscape; food, clothing and school supply donations for needy local families; and Camp Pa-Qua-Tuck, a special needs camp in Center Moriches.

This spring, Riverhead Rotary awarded $40,000 in scholarships to deserving local students.

Riverhead Rotary has also helped support Rotary International’s efforts to bring clean drinking water and health services to third-world countries.

Riverhead Rotary Club meets for lunch each Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. at the Sea Star Ballroom at the L.I. Aquarium and Exhibition Center, 451 East Main Street in Riverhead. Anyone interested in joining the club is encouraged to contact membership chair Thud Hill at 631-369-1234 ext. 107.
