Riverhead Police are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate two people who attempted to rob a man at gunpoint in Polish Town early this morning.
Police said Ervin Guzman, 26, was walking on Sweezy Avenue on his way to work this morning at about 6:15 when he was approached by a man and a woman near the intersection at Pulaski Street. The woman pointed a handgun at Guzman and the man demanded money, police said. The man then hit Guzman in the face and head with a large rock, causing Guzman to fall to the ground. The man continued to beat Guzman with the rock and demand money. A passing vehicle prompted the attackers to flee, without obtaining any money or other proceeds. They ran eastbound on Pulaski Street, police said.
Guzman walked home and called police. He was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of facial, head and shoulder injuries, according to the police report. Police described the attackers only as a black male and a black female.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department 631-727-4500 ext. 313.
