Some holiday shoppers thought they’d get an early jump on Thanksgiving sales at Target this afternoon.

Riverhead Police were called to the Route 58 retailer at about 1 p.m. after shoppers entered the unlocked front doors of the building and set off the alarm.

Target doesn’t open until 6 p.m. tonight for the Thanksgiving Day shopping frenzy. Someone apparently forgot to lock the front door, a Riverhead Police officer said.

Only a few people entered the darkened building. Nothing was taken and police waited at the scene until a store representative arrived to lock up.
