Two Riverhead High School students have been arrested on charges of first-degree robbery in the March 19 assault and robbery of two teens in the park on Oakland Drive West, according to Riverhead Town Police.

Charged were Marcus Reid, 18, a senior at the high school, as well as a 15-year-old whose name was not released by police due to his age.

Both were arrested Wednesday morning at Riverhead High School, according to a Riverhead police press report for that day. They were both held in lieu of $25,000 bail — Reid at the Suffolk County jail in Riverhead and the 15-year-old at the Nassau County Juvenile Detention Center.

The arrests were a result of an investigation into an assault and robbery reported at the park on the night of March 19. Two teens told police they had been surrounded by a group of 10 teenagers — eight males and two females — while in the park. Two of the males displayed knives and stole one of the victim’s sneakers and the other victim’s cell phone, according to a March 20 police press release.

One of the victims sustained a head injury when he was punched in the face during the incident, police said. He was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment.

Reid was a key player on the Riverhead Blue Waves football team and is a sprinter on the track and field team.
