(Updated: 5 p.m.) A Riverhead man stabbed his wife multiple times this morning before turning the knife on himself.
The man, 59, was placed under arrest and taken by Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he is undergoing emergency surgery for a “self-inflicted abdominal wound,” according to radio reports.
The woman, 52, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with multiple stab wounds to her lower back. She was treated and released, Riverhead Police said in a press release issued this afternoon.
The incident occurred sometime around 8:30 a.m. on Segal Avenue. Riverhead Police detectives are investigating.
