A Riverhead man has been arrested in connection with the shooting in downtown Riverhead Monday.
Riverhead Town Police tonight announced the arrest of Shawn D. James, 29, on a first-degree assault charge. James was also charged with resisting arrest.
A man was shot in the vicinity of East Avenue Monday just north of Main Street at about 3:15 p.m., police previously reported.
James was wanted on an active warrant out of Riverhead Justice Court on a prior menacing charge and he was also wanted by N.Y. State Police for violating parole, Riverhead Police said in a press release.
James is being held for morning arraignment, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
