A Riverhead man was arrested on criminal trespass and criminal mischief charges early this morning outside a downtown Riverhead restaurant, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police said they responded to a 911 call at 3:30 this morning reporting a suspicious person behind the Turkuaz Grille on McDermott Avenue. Responding officers determined that Ruben Alvarez Ortiz, 35, had climbed a fence and damaged a building vent and screen, according to a police press release.
Alvarez Ortiz was charged with Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree and Criminal Trespass in the third degree, police said.
He was arraigned this morning in Riverhead Justice Court and held in lieu of $100 bail, according to court records.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
