A collision of two pickup trucks at the intersection of Northville Turnpike and Middle Road sent one person to the hospital this morning.

A Chevy pickup towing a trailer was southbound on Northville Turnpike when its brakes failed and it collided with a westbound Ford pickup that was traveling through the intersection, according to police.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford was taken by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries police said were not life-threatening. The driver of the Chevy was unharmed.

The impact of the crash knocked the bed of the Chevy pickup off the chassis. The pickup bed and the trailer being towed by the Chevy crashed through the fencing of the yard on the southwest corner of the intersection.

No tickets were issued, police said.

Northville Turnpike was closed to traffic from Middle Road to Route 58 while police cleared the accident scene.
