Woman airlifted after falling from a moving bus on Sound Avenue

A woman who fell from a moving bus on Sound Avenue Saturday evening was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

The woman suffered abrasions all over her body, according to radio reports. The severity of her injuries and how she fell from the bus were not immediately known. The victim was conscious at the scene, according to reports.

The accident occurred between Baiting Hollow Lane and Osborn Avenue, just before 7 p.m. Riverhead Town Police are investigating.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps treated the woman at the scene and transported her to a Suffolk County Police helicopter, which landed in a sod field on Osborn Avenue. Riverhead Fire Department secured the landing zone.
