Alexander “Dzi Dzi” Wacik of Riverhead died Sept. 6, 2017 at Peconic Bay Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility. He was 92 years old.

Born in the Bronx on May 11, 1925, he was the son of Michael and Mary (Schwonick) Wacik.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 as a radarman, second class. He was a senior EMT in the Nassau County Police Department.

Predeceased by his wife Irene in 2012 and his daughter Susan Schuchardt in 2001, he is survived by his sons Alexander (Annmarie) and Michael (Laura), his sister Helen Szelwach, his grandchildren Stephanie, Michelle, Sarah, Jessica, Christin, Eric and Ravan and great-grandchildren Claire, Charlie, Alana and Monroe.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, Sept. 10 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home, 406 E. Main St., Riverhead.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church in Riverhead, Fr. Bohdan Hedz officiating. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
