A Riverhead man was arrested on drug possession and other charges after a foot chase by Southampton Town Police yesterday afternoon in Northampton.

Police got a tip about possible drug activity at the Wildwood Lake town park, behind the Wildwood Bowling Alley on Lake Avenue, yesterday at 12:38 p.m., according to a Southampton Town Police press release. “The caller provided detailed information about the activity and a description of the subject to the communications division,” police said.

Police community response unit officers were dispatched to the area and located a man fitting the description provided by the caller. Willie E. Officers pursued and caught Bryant, who was taken into custody on Lake Avenue at Old Westhampton Road, approximately a quarter-mile from the location of the initial stop, police said.

Once in custody, Bryant was found to possess approximately 10 grams of crack cocaine, eight grams of powdered cocaine and five bags of heroin, according to the police report.

Police said Bryant was taken to Southampton Town Police Headquarters and charged with: criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (quantity greater than a half-ounce); criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree (possession with intent to sell); criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree; resisting arrest; obstructing govermental administration in the second degree; and disorderly conduct.

Bryant was held at Southampton Town Police headquarters for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court.
