A 16-year-old Riverhead boy has been charged with assault in connection with the stabbing yesterday at 821 East Main Street, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Troyshawn Burgess was charged with assault in the second degree, a class D felony, police said. He was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and unlawful possession of marijuana subsequent to his arrest on the assault charge.
Riverhead police in a press release issued late last night said they responded to the report of a stabbing at the River Pointe apartment complex yesterday at about 4:45 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a male victim with numerous stab wounds. Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps brought the victim to Peconic Bay Medical Center. Police said his injuries were not life-threatening.
Burgess was arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court and remanded to the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail, police said.
