The Riverhead High School girls varsity track team completed the season at the Section XI championship with a finish for the record books. Two members of the team earned All-County Honors as well.

The team placed fifth at the championship race on Nov. 3, held at Sunken Meadow State Park which is traditionally a tough run — the athletes need to conquer what’s known as Cardiac Hill as part of the cross-country course.

“This meet represents the best finish in the girls’ track program history in Riverhead,” said coach Justin Cobis.

Competing at the meet were student-athletes Emma Conroy, Megan Kielbasa, Shannon O’Brien, Olivia Pizutto, Linda Pomraniceva, Madison Stromski and Christina Yakaboski. In helping their team reach fifth place, Kielbasa and Yakaboski earned All-County Honors.
