A worker at a Calverton propane facility was killed today when he was struck by a tanker truck, according to Riverhead Town Police.
Police identified the victim as George Scott, 35, of Aquebogue, an employee of Peconic Propane on Middle Country Road in Calverton. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck, a 2015 International Harvester Tank truck, was driven by an employee of the company. He has not been charged with any crimes or violations and no criminality is suspected, police said.
The accident occurred just after 1 p.m.
Riverhead Town Police detectives are investigating. The New York State Police Accident Re-Construction Unit, the New York State Police Motor Carrier Unit as well OSHA responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded.
