Belvin C. Quick Jr. of Riverhead died Jan.1, 2018 at his home. He was 90 years old.
He was born Sept. 4, 1927 to Carrie Lee (Smith) and Belvin C. Quick Sr. in Marlboro County, South Carolina.
He graduated from high school in Timmonsville, South Carolina. From 1949 to 1954 he served in the U.S. Air Force. After taking advantage of the G.I.Bill to study electronics, he went to work for Hughes Aircraft as an electronic technical field representative. He worked at various Air Force bases around the country, ending up at the Grumman facility in Calverton in 1976. He retired in 1986 after 32 years with Hughes Aircraft.
While stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan in 1965, he met and married Verna Brood. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Riverhead which he regularly attended until unable to due to illness. In his spare time, “B.C.” took joy in spending time with his family and helping them with their household projects, as well as listening to old-time country and gospel music. He also enjoyed woodworking, fixing old electronic devices, and especially researching his family tree.
Predeceased by his sisters Capitola Galloway (Clyde) and Margaret Keith (Bruce) and by his brother Ted, he is survived by his wife Verna (Brood) Quick of Riverhead, his daughters Dolores of Shirley and Sandra Roesig (Stephen) of Shirley, his son Steven (Sherri) of Medford, his grandsons Matthew Roesig and Zachary, Adam and Jesse Quick, his sister-in-law Terri Quick of Maryland, and his nieces Patricia Sullivan of North Carolina, Linda Lee Burke of North Carolina, Debbie Wertz of Maryland, and Lynn Marie Quick of Maryland and by many additional nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors Sunday, Jan. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8 at the funeral home. Rev. Dave Cooke will officiate. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery. Family and friends attending the funeral please arrive at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday.
