A Riverhead man was charged with menacing after a domestic incident investigation this morning that led to a “lockout” of certain Riverhead Central School District buildings.

Riverhead Town Police charged Omar Wilson, 44, with menacing in the second degree following the report this morning of a domestic incident last night.

Wilson was reportedly in possession of a semi-automatic handgun and thought to possibly be in the area of Riverhead Central School District’s main campus. Police patrol units were dispatched to the area at about 9 a.m. today. The school district was notified and schools in the area were briefly placed on “lockout” status. Police units patrolled the school campuses and surrounding areas.

The district subsequently made Connect-Ed calls to parents informing them of the incident.

Police said students were never in any danger.

Wilson was arrested when he returned to his Osborn Avenue home within 30 minutes of the initial report to police.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
