Lawrence Taylor of Calverton died March 15, 2018 at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care. He was 86 years old.
Born in Riverhead on July 5, 1931, he was the son of Lawrence and Annette Taylor.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1953. He worked as an electrician for the Town of Riverhead.
He was a 62-year member of the Riverhead Fire Department, where he was an ex-captain of the Eagle Hose Co. and a member of the Ironman racing team. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 273 in Riverhead and the Riverhead Polish Independent Club.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golf, fishing, bowling and darts.
He is survived by his wife Bertha (Pawluczyk) and his children, Lawrence Jr. of Nevada and Barbara Youngs (Rick Mcrae); by his brothers, Robert of Aquebogue and Raymond of Riverhead; and by one grandchild, Bryan. He was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Ovisniak and by Thomas Taylor.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, March 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, March 19 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore’s R.C. Church.
