A woman reported being robbed near the intersection of East Main Street and Riverside Drive shortly before 5:30 this evening, Riverhead Police said in a press release.

The woman went to police headquarters at 5:26 p.m. to report the robbery. She said an unknown male approached her, grabbed her and demanded money. He then reached into her jacket pocket and removed $140 in cash, she told police. He then fled on foot in an eastern direction on East Main Street, according to the police report.

A Suffolk County Sheriff’s K9 Officer responde and searched the area with negative results, police sail d. A search was conducted for the subject in the area with negative results. The investigation is ongoing and anyone that may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the Riverhead Detective Division at (631) 727-4500 Ext. 326. All calls will be kept in confidence.

Police provided no description of the suspect other than to say he was reportedly a black male.
