Riverhead Town Police is investigating a break-in at a Route 58 gas station early this morning.
Police said in a press release that a police car on patrol discovered a broken window on the east-side of a Citgo Gas Station located on Osborn Avenue and Route 58.
A representative of the gas station was contacted and responded, police said.
Upon further investigation it was determined that unknown person or persons entered the business by damaging the window to gain entry and then attempted to break into an ATM machine located inside, police said.
Police said that it does not appear that anything was removed at the time of the report.
Detectives are investigating and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at 631-727-4500.
