Suzanne Pitman of Southold died at Eastern Long Island Hospital Nov. 12, 2018. She was 99 years old.
She was born on Feb. 24, 1919, in Zurich, Switzerland to Mina (Pfaff) and Adolph Marklin. She came to the United States at the age of 3 and grew up in Bergen County, New Jersey. She graduated from Englewood Hospital School of Nursing in 1941.
She married Irv Pitman in 1942. His family had had a summer home in Southold since 1920. They visited Southold nearly every summer and moved out here from Tenafly/Bergenfield, New Jersey permanently in 2015.
She volunteered at Englewood Hospital, Mary Fisher Home and the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, New Jersey and the church consistory. In her spare time, she enjoyed listening to classical music, reading, her church, family and pets. She and her husband bought a motor home and traveled extensively around the country and up into Alaska.
She is survived by her husband, Irv, two sons, William (Jeanne) and John (Sue), four grandchildren, Bill, Becky, Keri and Paul; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a memorial service on Dec. 8, 2018, at the Clinton Avenue Reformed Church in Bergenfield, New Jersey at 11 a.m.
