(Updated Jan. 1) Riverhead Police are searching for a man involved in a single-vehicle crash that left the vehicle partially suspended off the Route 105 bridge Monday evening, according to radio reports.

Police received a report of the MVA at about 6:10 p.m. The vehicle operator was a white male wearing a white shirt, according to radio reports. 

Riverhead Fire Department put a rescue boat in the water to search for the operator of the vehicle in case he ended up in the water. They searched the water as well as the shoreline in the area, using thermal imaging camera equipment. The search produced no results.

The vehicle, found in the southbound lane of Rt. 105, was registered a man residing in Wading River, according to reports.

Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man in a white shirt running away from the accident, police said.

At 7:05 p.m. a man called police headquarters from Tanger Outlets to report his vehicle was stolen from the parking lot there. The vehicle reported stolen was the same vehicle found on the Rt. 105 bridge.

The incident remains under investigation.

Reports to Riverhead Police Monday night originally came in about a vehicle crashing on the bridge and possibly going off the bridge.  The fire department was notified for heavy rescue and conducted a marine search with no result.
