The Riverhead Republican Committee is seeking prospective candidates for town office. The committee has announced it will hold a candidate screening next Tuesday evening (Feb. 5) for town supervisor, town clerk, tax receiver, council member (two positions), assessor (two positions) and town justice. These positions will be filled at the general election on Nov. 5.
The two council seats open this fall are currently held by James Wooten and Tim Hubbard, both Republicans. Wooten is term-limited and cannot seek re-election as councilman. Hubbard is completing his first four-year term.
The assessors positions currently held by Paul Leszczynski and Mason Haas are open this election year. They are two members of a three-person board of assessors. The third assessor is chairperson Laverne Tennenberg, who was re-elected to a four-year term in 2017. All three incumbent assessors are Republicans.
Due to the changes in New York State Election Law the calendar is being expedited, according to the committee’s announcement.
The announcement did not disclose the location of the screening session but asked all interested individuals to contact RiverheadGop@gmail.com.
