A Riverhead man is facing a child endangerment charge after a young child he was caring for was found walking along the LIRR right-of-way in downtown Riverhead Saturday evening, Riverhead Police said in a press release.
The child, described by police as a toddler, was spotted by a passing motorist on Maple Avenue, who called police at about 6:45 p.m. yesterday.
An investigation determined that the child left the residence while under the supervision of Celio Monroy-Huit, 48, police said. Monroy-Huit was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Police said the child was turned over to the custody of the child’s mother.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
