Lifelong Cutchogue resident Joan Ann Lademann died May 2, 2019, at the age of 85.
She was born March 17, 1934, to Anna (Zaneski) and William T. Remski. She attended Cutchogue Grammar School and graduated valedictorian of Mattituck High School in June, 1952.
She married John M. Lademann on Jan. 24, 1953, and the couple recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in Aruba as they have done for the past 24 years.
She was secretary for her husband’s electrical business for 18 years while her children were young. She then returned to employment with the Suffolk County Department of Social Services for several years before starting her 28-year career as guidance secretary at Mattituck High School. In addition to sending out endless college applications each year, she was a very dedicated employee and touched the lives of so many co-workers and students alike.
Family members said she was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed spending family time together. Her hobbies were many and she loved to can and freeze her home-grown vegetables and fruit. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, jumble, watching “Who Wants to be a Millionaire and watching the Mets games on TV.
She was a very active 60-year member in the Cutchogue Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary an was a past president of both the auxiliary and the Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church Rosary Society.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children: John E. Lademann (Kathy), Patricia Mudd (Stephen), William T. Lademann (Denise), Thomas Lademann (Sherri) and Michael Lademann (Maureen). Also surviving are her 11 grandchildren: Erin Lademann, Nicole Mudd Helf (John), Stephen T. Mudd (Jen), Brienne Lademann Stein (Dan), Brendan Lademann, Jason Lademann, Casey Lademann Morrison (Sam), Haley Lademann, Jeffrey Lademann, Ryan Lademann and Tyler Lademann (Kyleen); and five great-grandchildren: Anna Mudd, Johnny, Brett and William Helf and Prentice Lademann.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, May 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, at Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue, officiated by Father Mariusz Gorazd. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.
Memorial donations to Cutchogue Fire Department, 260 New Suffolk Lane, Cutchogue, NY 11935 would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
