Parents will have the opportunity to obtain New York State ‘Safe Child ID’ cards for their children Saturday at Riverhead Free Library.

Assemblyman Anthony Palumbo is hosting the “Operation Safe Child” event from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the library, located at 330 Court Street in Riverhead.

Children who attend the event will be issued an identification card to assist during an emergency. The ID cards will be issued by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department.

“This is a great opportunity for kids who are not old enough to be issued a driver’s license in the community to get proper identification,” said Palumbo.

“Whether it be natural disasters or any other emergency within the community, it’s important that our children have the proper identification in case they are separated from their parents and loved ones. Every child who attends this event will be issued identification; I strongly encourage everyone to attend,” he said.
