Gilbert Levasseur of Aquebogue, formerly of Flanders, died July 5, 2019. He was 88 years old.

Born on Jan. 30, 1931 in Plantation, Maine, he was the son of Camille and Marie (Pelletier) Levasseur.

He married Marie Paulle Santerre on June 8, 1954 in Balmoral, New Brunswick, Canada.

He was a self-employed carpenter in Riverhead for over 50 years.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his children, Diane, Claude (Mary), Rejean (Karen), Guylaine (Frederick) Erickson, Steve (Michele), Gina Tooth, Denis (Laura) Levasseur and Sandra (Kevin) Kelly. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Simon, Pascal, Jean-Claude, Nicolas (Rachel), Danielle, Amanda (Logan) Sealover, Kyle (Rachel), Jarret Kelly, Luke, Nicole, Connor, and Joshua Tooth; and by his siblings: Norman, Wilbert, Yvette (Richerm Paul-emile, Ernest, Claudette Langley and Mona Potvin. He was predeceased by his siblings, Robert, O’Neil, Juliette Thomas, and his son-in-law, Gerald Champagne.

Memorial visitation will take place on Sunday, July 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Riverhead.
