A fast-moving line of strong storms blew through the region Thursday evening, brining heavy rain, winds and lightning that brought down trees, branches and wires across Long Island.
The storms left more than 36,000 PSEG-LI customers in Suffolk County without power, according to the utility company. Nearly 35,400 customers remain without power this morning, including more than 800 customers from Wading River to Southold and Shelter Island.
Crews have been deployed to assess damages and make repairs, PSEG said in a press release early this morning. They worked through the night and focusing on facilities and outages affecting the largest numbers of customers first. The towns of Islip and Babylon were hardest hit, according to the company.
