The operator of a motorcycle was seriously injured when he collided with a deer Sunday night on Middle Country Road in Calverton, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release.

The man, whom police did not identify, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of injuries police described as serious.

Police said they were called to the scene, west of Manor Road, at 8:22 p.m. and located a male victim in the roadway.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to treat the victim and Riverhead Fire Department secured a landing zone for the Suffolk Medevac helicopter.

Riverhead Police detectives were called to assist the investigation. Polce ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call Riverhead Police at 631-727-4500 ext. 328.
