Riverhead Police are seeking information about a robbery reported this morning on Route 58 in the vicinity of Popeye’s Chicken.
Police said a 34-year-old Riverhead man reported being beaten and robbed by a group of five or six unknown males, who accosted him as he was walking on Route 58 at around midnight. The males demanded cash and when he refused they began striking him repeatedly, the man told police. They removed his cell phone and his wallet, which contained cash, police said, and fled on foot in a northwesterly direction.
The man told police he walked to his nearby home and passed out. Upon gaining consciousness, he walked to the 7-Eleven at DMV Plaza to request help, according to the report.
Police were called at approximately 6:30 a.m. and located the victim, who had wounds to his face. He was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of injuries police said were believed non-life-threatening.
