Riverhead Police are seeking information about an assault that occurred late last night in Riverhead.

Police said an injured man walked to a home at 46 Segal Avenue requesting help. A resident at the home called police for medical assistance for a man who had a head injury due to a fall.

Responding police officers determined the man had been the victim of an assault and had walked to the residence to request assistance.

The man was highly intoxicated and unable to provide any details about the assailants or where the assault took place, according to a police press release. The man was still in possession of his belongings, police said.

Segal Avenue is in the MIllbrook Gables neighborhood, which stretches from East Main Street to Route 58 not far from a reported assault and robbery of a man late Saturday night by a group of five or six males. That victim was walking westbound on Route 58 near Popeye’s Chicken when he was accosted heaten and robbed.

Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the victim to Peconic Bay Medical Center for medical treatment injuries described as not life=-threatening injuries, according to police.

The Riverhead Police Department Detective Division is investigating and ask that anyone who may have witnessed the assault or may have any information about the incident call Riverhead Police at 31-727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
