Police are investigating an intentionally set fire at a house on Doctors Path Sunday night.
The Riverhead Police Department responded to a call at 9:28 p.m. Sunday stating that a residence on Doctors Path was “fully engulfed,” according to a press release issued by Riverhead Police early Monday morning.
Responding officers found a small ground fire outside the home at 425 Doctors Path which they quickly extinguished.
Riverhead detectives, the Riverhead fire marshal’s office and the Suffolk County Police arson squad were called to investigate. Officers determined that an unknown person(s) threw a plastic gasoline container along the ground near the residence and a flammable substance was ignited and caused the nearby ground, grass and shrubs to burn, police said. Smoke damage was visible on the residence, which was occupied by two people at the time of the incident, according to the report. No injuries were reported, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, police said, and anyone with information is asked to call the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.
