The pilot of a small plane sustained minor injuries when the plane flipped over as the pilot attempted to land at a private airstrip on Sound Avenue in Riverhead this morning, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release.
The pilot was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps for treatment, police said.
Police said they received a call at approximately 10:47 a.m. reporting a possible small plane crash in the area of 2995 Sound Avenue, which is near Horton Avenue. Responding officers found a small private aircraft was flipped over, according to the press release. The pilot was making a planned landing on the private airstrip, police said. The FAA and NTSB were notified, police said.
