Suffolk County SPCA is seeking information about a cat with a gunshot wound found in Aquebogue on Oct. 11.
The cat was found in the vicinity of Southfields Road and West Lane Monday, the SPCA said in a press release. It had a pellet lodged in its spine, according to the release.
The Suffolk County SPCA and Strong Island Rescue are offering a total reward of $4,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for this crime.
The cat, named Abraham by its rescuers is currently being taken care of by Frankie Florida of Strong Island Rescue.
“This horrific attack is a reminder of the dangers that cats face when they are left outdoors unprotected,” said Suffolk SPCA Chief Roy Gross.
Intentionally harming an animal is a crime in New York State punishable by imprisonment and or a fine.
