Riverhead Police have charged a Riverhead man in connection with a shooting incident in Calverton on Oct. 4.

Police said an investigation conducted by Riverhead Police detectives and the New York State Police Forensic Investigation Unit led to the arrest yesterday of Demario Weston Jr, 19, on charges of Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree, both felonies under New York State Penal Law.

In a press release issued about the incident on Oct. 5, police said a resident of the Sound Avenue home was in a dispute with three occupants of a black sedan and, as a result of the dispute, gunshots were fires at the house, striking the kitchen of the residence as well as four vehicles parked there.

Weston was processed at police headquarters and held for arraignment, police said.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing and additional arrests are expected, police said.

Anyone with additional information regarding this investigation are asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631)727-4500. All calls will be kept confidential, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
