Riverhead Police have charged a man with felony assault after a fight at a West Main Street house last night.
Jason Melenciano, 40, of Riverhead, was arrested on a charge of Assault in the Second Degree, a class D felony after an investigation into a fight that sent another man to the hospital with a laceration to his arm, police said in press release this morning.
Police identified the other man involved in the altercation as Richard Meade, 39, of Riverhead. He was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injury, police said. He was treated and released, according to the police report.
Both men are residents of the home at 505 West Main Street where the fight took place, police said. Patrol officers responded to a report of a physical dispute at that location at 9:18 p.m., according to the press release. A subsequent investigation by detectives resulted in Melenciano’s arrest, police said.
Melenciano was held for morning arraignment.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to call the Riverhead Police Department at (631)727-4500.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
