Louis A. Formica of Mattituck died on July 12, 2022. He was 96 years old. 

He was born on Oct. 16, 1925 in Hartford, Connecticut to Maria (LoGuidice) and Sebastien Formica. After graduating from Hartford High School, he was drafted into the Army and served during World War II in the 93rd Chemical Mortar Battalion. After his service, he attended the University of Connecticut and earned his PhD.

He worked as an educator in Connecticut and Long Island before retiring in 1984. His hobbies included gardening, music — especially opera — woodworking, boating and fishing.

He was predeceased by his siblings Josephine, Harry and Joseph. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Betty, daughter Lynn (Greg) of Waltham, Massachusetts and son John (Sarah) of Stevensville, Maryland, grandchildren Tyler of Annapolis, Maryland and Anna of Baltimore, Maryland and brother Michael (Lani) of Ventura, California. 

A private mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Mattituck followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
