A Riverhead man is charged with felony assault in connection with an an incident on Winters Lane in Riverhead overnight that left another man with numerous cuts to his head and face, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release this afternoon.
Police said officers were called to a house on Winters Lane, off West Main Street, on a report of an assault at about 1 a.m. today.
Responding officers found a man with numerous lacerations on his head and face, police said. The man was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which police said were not life-threatening.
Police said subsequent investigation by Riverhead Police detectives resulted in the arrest of Bryan Paol Miranda Penafiel, 26, of Riverhead. He was arrested and charged with one count of Assault in the Second Degree, which is intentionally causing physical injury with a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument. Assault in the Second Degree is a Class D Felony.
The suspect was held for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court, according to the report.
