Riverhead High School senior Ava Sumwalt was honored at the 22nd Annual Butch Dellecave Awards held in Holbrook.

The award is presented to students who excel in athletics, classroom performance and community service efforts. Athletic directors from 66 Suffolk County school districts nominate one male and one female students from their senior class.

The award is named in honor of educator, official and coach Gaetano “Butch” Dellecave. The award organizer include the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, the Butch Dellecave Foundation and Newsday.
