An oven explosion at the Stony Brook Incubator in Calverton sent a woman to the hospital this morning.
Riverhead Town Police said they were called to the incubator building at 8:57 a.m. today on the report of an oven explosion and a fire at the location.
Responding officers found an injured woman in the building. She was treated for a laceration to the head and other potential injuries, police said in a press release this afternoon.
Police assisted in escorting the injured woman away from the building while also evacuating additional persons from the building, according to the release.
Wading River Fire Department responded to turn off the gas line to the building, police said. Wading River Fire Department Rescue evaluated the injured woman on scene and subsequently transported her to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of her injuries, police said.
Stony Brook University Police, Stony Brook fire marshals, State fire marshals, Riverhead fire marshals and National Grid responded and assisted the Riverhead Police with the investigation, police said.
