Irving G. Pitman of Southold died on Nov. 22, 2022 at home. He was 105 years old.

He was born on May 9, 1917 in Englewood, New Jersey to William and Vina Pitman. He graduated from Englewood High School, attended Upsala College and then graduated from Tufts dental school in 1941. Following dental school, he became a dental resident at Englewood Hospital. He served in the U.S. Army as a dental officer and was stationed at Camp Lee, Virginia. Shortly thereafter, he was shipped out to Italy with the 5th Army Medical Corp where he remained until 1945. After his service he set up a private practice in Tenafly, New Jersey where he practiced until retirement in 1982.

He was a member of the medical staff at Englewood Hospital and served on the Chaplaincy Committee of Englewood Hospital. He was a life member of the Bergen County Dental Association. He served on the consistory of the Community Church of Englewood and then later for Clinton Avenue Reformed Church of Bergenfield and as an elder of the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church. His hobbies included fishing, swimming, boating, traveling with his wife throughout the U.S. and making friends.

He was predeceased by his siblings William and Elizabeth Schultz. He is survived by his sons William (Jeanne) and John (Sue), grandchildren Keri (Andrew Cleeremans), Becky (Moses Sackowitz), Paul (Kristin) and Bill and four great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Jan. 14, 2023 at the Presbyterian Church in Cutchogue at 11 a.m. There will be a luncheon following the service at the American Legion Post 803 in Southold at 1 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Cutchogue Presbyterian Church, Save the Sound or the American Legion Post 803.
