Elizabeth E. DeFriest of East Hampton died on May 4, 2023, in Huntersville, North Carolina. She was 98 years old.

Born on July 5, 1924, in Southold to H. Evelyna (née Anderson) and Jay M. Glover, DeFriest graduated from Southold High School. She married Irad R. DeFriest on Oct. 4, 1947, in Southold. DeFriest worked as a clerk typist for East Hampton Town and was a member of the East Hampton Methodist Church.

Predeceased by her husband, Irad, and sister, Carol Glover, DeFriest is survived by her children, Linda Ehrlich of Denver, North Carolina, and Robert DeFriest (Karen) of West Chester, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Matt Ehrlich (Jennifer), Jason Ehrlich (Amy), Scott Ehrlich (Dianne), Kendrick Richey (Travis), and Dana Hassen (Ron); sister, Cora Stoll of Southold; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at Calverton National Cemetery on May 17, officiated by Pastor Kenny McQuiller. A memorial service luncheon took place at Cooperidge Inn in Calverton following the interment.

Memorial donations in DeFriest’s name may be made to the East Hampton Senior Center, 128 Springs Fireplace Road, East Hampton, 11937. DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck is serving the family.
