The cast of 'Godspell' during a dress rehearsal on Aug. 1 at Riverhead High School

Riverhead students and alumni will grace the stage this weekend to perform Godspell at Riverhead High School.

Performances are this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door of the auditorium.

The 1971 rock and roll musical follows Jesus and his disciples as they talk and sing through various parables primarily based on the Gospel of Matthew. The musical was composed by Stephen Schwartz with a script by John-Michael Tebelak.

The production is the culmination of a new four week-long summer program for Riverhead students in grades five through 12 called the “Summer Fine and Performing Arts Academy.” In addition to theater, the program also offers music lessons and music theory instruction.

The production stars Jaiden Kane as Jesus, Ethan Caskie as John the Baptist/Judas and 21 other cast members as ensemble members. The show is student directed by Rose Green and Cheyanne Metzger with student choreography by Ayla Fideli, Erin Hubbard and Kelsey Saladino.
