Update – Sept. 10, 5:45 p.m.: The Aquebogue man struck by a pickup truck in the parking lot of Planet Fitness in Riverhead Friday morning has succumbed to his injuries.
Ryan Falek, 68, of Aquebogue, died of a severe brain injury yesterday at South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore.
Falek was in the parking lot in front of Planet Fitness at around 9:30 a.m. Friday morning when he was struck by a pickup truck being operated by a 52-year-old woman, Riverhead Town Police said in a press release.
Falek sustained a severe head injury and was in critical condition when he was transported by the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was treated and immediately transferred to South Shore University Hospital for further treatment, police said.
The operator of the vehicle who struck Falek was also transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where she was treated and released, police said.
No criminality is suspected at this time, police said, but an investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has further information is encouraged to contact Riverhead Police at (631) 727-4500
