Robert J. Liegel of Hudson, Florida died Aug. 28, 2023. He was 79 years old.
He was born in Riverhead on Oct. 4, 1943, the son of Robert Liegel and Sophie Duhnowski.
He graduated from Riverhead High School, served in the U.S. Army, and worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for 45 years until his retirement in 2007, when he relocated to Florida.
He was a volunteer firefighter and ex-captain in the Riverhead Fire Department.
Liegel is survived by his wife Patricia and his stepson Peter Hart of Savannah, Georgia.
Interment was at Bushnell National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
