Florence L. Kowalsick of Riverhead died Sept. 19, 2023 at San Simeon by the Sound in Greenport. She was 93 years old.

Born in Queens on June 17, 1930, the daughter of Stanley and Victoria (Sieminski) Ladka.

She graduated from Riverhead High School in 1947.

She was married to Walter Kowalsick. She worked at BOCES in Westhampton and at the Riverhead Free Library.

She was a dedicated volunteer, donating her time and energy to the Yellow Barn at Riverhead Free Library, the Riverhead Nursing Home, was a Eucharistic Minister and took care of the alter clothes, making sure they were cleaned, starched and replaced weekly. She was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and a lifetime member of the VFW.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and loved crocheting afghans, knitting sweaters and especially kitting preemie baby hats for newborns. Her family said she loved to attend her grandchildren’s soccer games, softball games, dance recitals, and school performances. She took pride in her family and enjoyed taking them to plays and dinners in New York City.

Florence was predeceased by her husband Walter in 1992. She is survived by her children, Thomas (Anne) Kowalsick of Jamesport, Theresa (Mark) Staranchak of Connecticut and James (Donna) Kowalsick of Florida, her sister-in-law, Patricia Hickey, by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverehad. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. at St. Isidore Church. Interment will follow at St. Isidore Cemetery.
