Riverhead Police yesterday arrested a former employee of Little Flower Children and Family Services on a charge of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.
The arrest resulted from an investigation by Riverhead detectives into an incident at the Wading River facility on June 25 regarding the alleged use of excessive force to subdue a resident, police said in a press release today.
The investigation was conducted by the Riverhead Police Department’s Detective Division in conjunction with the New York State Justice Center.
Police charged Jamal Walker, 41, of Coram, with one count of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person in the second degree, a class A misdemeanor.
Walker was arraigned in Riverhead Town Justice Court and released on his own recognizance, police said.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
