Police have charged a 14-year-old in a knifepoint robbery of a gas station convenience store Wednesday afternoon.

Police received a 911 call at about 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon reporting a robbery in progress at the Shell gas station at 626 West Main Street. The caller reported that an unknown male wearing a ski mask and brandishing a knife forcibly removed vape products from the retail store at the gas station, according to the police report.

After a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended and identified as a 14-year-old male Riverhead resident. He was charged with Robbery in the First Degree, Resisting Arrest and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. The juvenile was processed on the charges and held for arraignment, police said.

Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
